How do I migrate email to Google Apps?

YippieMove can save you a lot of time and headache if you are planning to migrate email to Google Apps. Depending on the number of accounts you are planning to transfer to Google Apps, we recommend different methods.

If you are migrating less than five email accounts, read on. If you are planning to migrate more than five accounts, we recommend this method instead.

If you are migrating less than five accounts to Google Apps

For migrations of less than five accounts, we recommend that you use our regular web interface.

In this example, we will show you how to migrate email from a private email server (mail.company.com) to Google Apps.

First we need to browse over to Step 1. Once there, start by typing your username and password to the email server you are moving from. In this example, the username is '[email protected]' Since we are moving from a private email server, it is not listed in the drop-down list. Therefore, we need to select 'Other.' Upon selecting this, two fields will appear below 'Provider': 'Host' and 'Port.'

In the field 'Host,' we enter the address to the old email server. In this example, it is 'mail.company.com.' If your server uses 'SSL,' simply check the checkbox next to 'SSL' and the Port will automatically update to '993,' which is the standard for IMAPS. When done, we click 'Next'

Step 1: The source account

In Step 2 we enter the information for the Google Apps-account that we are moving to. We assume that you have created the Google Apps-account '[email protected]' and that it is ready to use.

Simply enter the Google Apps-account you want to migrate to next to 'Account Login.' We also need to enter the password next to 'Password' and select 'Google Apps' in the drop-down list next to 'Provider'. When done, press 'Next.'

Step 2: The destination account

Step 3 is the last step. Here we select the folders that we want to transfer to Google Apps. Our system automatically deselects folders such as 'Junk' and 'Trash' but leaves all other folders. Therefore, the default selection is good for most users. When you are done selecting folders, press 'Next'

If you are migrating five or more accounts to Google Apps

For migrations of more than five accounts, we recommend that you use our Batch Migration-tool.

The process is outlined in greater detail on the batch migration-page, but here is a summary:

  • Download and fill out the CSV-file
    • If you are migrating to Google Apps, you need to use these settings in the CSV-file:
    • dst_username - Your Google Apps username (eg. [email protected])
    • dst_password - Your Google Apps password
    • dst_host - imap.gmail.com (Google Apps and Gmail are using the same servers)
    • dst_port - 993
    • dst_ssl - True
  • Upload the CSV-file and initiate the transfers
  • Monitor the transfers in near realtime

Batch: Upload the CSV-file

That's it. Click here to get started.
